If you are looking to restore pine floors, bear in mind you can be quite daring. This does not mean that you have to select a wacky wood finish. However, it does mean that selecting a darker wood finish could really add depth to your floors. Dark wood finishes do not always mean a dark room, but instead create a unique statement.
This is a project we worked on in Southport, Lancashire. When we began the work, the floors were in quite a deteriorated state. While this may not be great for our clients to see, we are aware of the transformation that can be achieved. When you start with damaged, scratched and unsightly floors, it can be so satisfying to see how they change through the process of floor sanding.
Sanding the floors removes the top layers. This strips back years of damage and grime to reveal fresh and natural wood underneath. Using the right floor sanding machines allows you the opportunity to create a smooth and seamless surface. Why is this important? As you can imagine, when applying a wood finish, imperfections show up if the correct preparation has not been done.
Some Floor Sanding Errors
Sanding floors in itself is not particularly challenging. However, it is easy to make mistakes. This can be due to carelessness or laziness. However, here are a list of some of the most common errors:
- Staying in one spot too long
- Using the wrong tools
- Pressing too hard
- Using the incorrect sandpaper grit
- Not changing your sandpaper often enough
- Sanding against the grain of the wood
- Not removing the sanding dust (if you are not using dustless sanding systems)
Each of these problems will leave you with damage that needs fixing. You can avoid all of these if you know what you are doing. These pine floors were treated with a black hard wax oil, creating a beautiful and characterful finish. Are you looking to restore pine floors? Call today to request a quotation on 0800 852 7188.
