Restoring damaged wood floors can be a challenge. The rate of damage or deterioration can vary greatly. Some more minor issues may be related to discolouration of the surface coatings, or wood finish. However, these can vary all the way down to damaged wood boards, that can be restored to other serious damage that needs replacement.
Most serious damage of wood floors is associated with excess moisture within any space. This can cause cracking, gaps between boards, cupping, crowning and buckling. Cupping is when the edges of individual boards become higher than the centre. Crowning is just the opposite and means that the centre of the individual board is higher than the edges. Buckling is often considered to be the most severe general damage. This means that the actual boards raise from the subfloor. It is true that this can vary in its severity, but the likelihood is that a detailed plan would need to be made in order to fix the issue.
So many issues related to damaged wood floors can be fixed. It is important that you seek the assistance of a time-served floor sanding professional with this. Experience in the trade is pivotal to the overall success and end result.
