Aged wood flooring can look great. It can add charm to any area within your home. However, it can also start to detract from the general appearance. There is a fine line between character and damage and this is very individual. However, regular maintenance is really important for your wood floors to make sure they last as long as possible.
Aged Wood Flooring
A question we have regularly is about older wood floors. Our clients wonder whether they can be restored or whether they are too old for restoration. There is a lot of advice we can offer to ensure the smooth running of the entire process.
Firstly, it is important to determine what type of floor you have. Unfortunately, if you find your floor is a wood effect laminate then restoration is not possible. This would mean that you would need to replace the entire floor. This is also the case for wood effect vinyl flooring. Both types of flooring can be deep cleaned. However, if the damage extends beyond cleaning, then a replacement may be needed.
Both engineered and solid wood floors can be restored. The sanding and refurbishing processes help breathe new life into any wood floor. Engineered wood flooring has a thin layer of real wood bonded to a base layer. Whereas solid wood flooring is as the name suggests, one solid piece of wood. Both can be sanded multiple times; however, the process can only be completed between two to three times for engineered boards.
If you completed the wood floor installation, it is likely you will have knowledge of whether your floors are real wood. However, many of our clients uncover an old wood floor or inherit it through a house purchase. In these cases, it is sometimes more of a challenge to identify its type. If you require any help or guidance, we are always on hand to offer such support. We offer no obligation wood restoration quotes. Call today on 0800 852 7188.
